Global Citizen
“Dare to change your perspective of the world”
I first learned of the International Exchange Program at the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business when I started to apply to Business Schools in the winter of 2011. As corner stone of the program, the University of Victoria became my first choice to obtain a Commerce Degree. In addition to this, I valued Gustavson’s four value pillars that of international, integrative, innovative and sustainability/social responsibility which enables its students to “think globally and act locally.”
Since then I have been actively preparing to go on exchange. My participation in the international exchange program will allow me to meaningfully augment the education I am currently receiving and would put to action everything I learned both within and outside the confines of the classroom. I am particularly interested in expanding my international exposure to further develop what it means to be a global citizen. |
Earlier this year I found out that I will be going to Jonkoping International Business School in Sweden this August. I chose this school for its guiding principles of being: “international at heart, entrepreneurial in mind and responsible in action.” I wanted to attend a school that had an international perspective with social responsibility in mind. I believe my experience in Jonkoping will impact my learning through allowing me to understand topics and issues from a different perspective.
Since I am interested in pursuing a career either in HR or Marketing in an international arena, I plan to take courses at my exchange University that have a local and/or European scope. I am increasingly aware that in today’s world I need to continually cultivate and advance my proficiency in what it means to be a global citizen.

With this exchange, I hope to grow and expand globally, academically, professionally and personally in the following ways:
